are calling her the most hated woman in baltimore. >>> when you head to the polls there's one issue sure to stand out you heard about. the referendum to legalize same sex marriage is going to be on the ballot. and linda so is live and there appears to be a final push with this issue. >> reporter: this is specifically from african americans who oppose same sex marriage in maryland are trying to get voters to get out to the polls and one of the methods is raising controversy. they are sending out mailersfeaturing the phrase my mommy is my daddy and my daddy is my mommy so who is my aunt? language that some may find offensive. group called jump the broom for marriages is making calls trying to convince opponents the same sex marriage to make donations and get out the vote. a the leader of the group says it's aiming the message at the african american community. >> we believe if you have if you have the lord's word that states marriage is between a man and a woman. it's a unhealthy lifestyle for our children and it's just not right. >> reporter: and the group is targeting african american co

schools -- baltimore city schools today due to the harry and jeanette wineberg undation. they are having a huge event hosting a grand opening of the first of three school libraries. so right now abc2 news sherrie johnson is live with more on what's happening and why this is so exciting. >> reporter: well, yes, we are here live at the thomas johnson elementary middle school and south baltimore where in few hours there's going to be the grand unveiling. not only here at this school but two other schools to make it three new libraries total. and this morning, i have lyanne with me who has two sons one inpre-k and first grade. tell me about what you think about this library project and the fact the schools get the new libraries. >> i think it's incredible. especially for the city where we sometimes feel like we are forgotten the but this is bringing such a positive buzz to the neighborhood. we are getting 4,000 new bucks a pretty shiny new library where the kids can go in and experience learning. >> reporter: what do you think about the wineberg foundationteaming with up community partners t

news for you this morning this. is coming out of baltimore city. lauren just mentioned it as a traffic headache if you are traveling in that area. this is also a big news story because six people including a child have been rushed to the hospital this morning following a fire at an apartment building. firefighters right now are battling the flames at 5003 load stone way which is in northeast baltimore. we're told that the fire is on the second and the third floors. again, six people taken to the hospital, including a child. right now we don't know the extent of their injuries, but we are on top of this story. we have a reporter headed to the scene, if she's not there already. stay with us, we'll continue to stay on top of this story, not only on air, but on abc2news.com. >>> police right now calling it a random murder, an nih researcher killed and this happened near his northeast baltimore home. dr. peter marvet, he was found by by his car on monday night, shot multiple times. investigators say he just parked that car and was going home to see his family when this happened. police were

news' sherrie johnson is live this morning in northeast baltimore with the story and what's the latest on the investigation? >> reporter: okay, right now megan, police are still searching for a suspect in this shooting. so that investigation continues. now we are told that classes are set to resume this morning after the campus was on lockdown yesterday and evening classes were also canceled because of the shooting. but they are set to resume classes this morning. this all happened yesterday about 4:15 p.m. witnesses say the victim was inside the morgan state student center playing pool. he was shot inside the student center and he collapsed outside the building. investigators don't think the victim or the gunman were students at morgan state and right now many students are concerned leading to questions about how easy it can be for outsiders to come in and cause trouble. >> i heard a gunshot or like a big noise. so now i came out here to check and i found out it was him on the ground and he was bleeding. >> reporter: not yet released the name of the victim. they're also still searchin
